More About the Project!

Max Frayser(Left), Liberty(Center), Jacob Rawls(Right)

During the process of building the training facility many things were changed and added to the original design. Instead of concrete slabs under each tower we decided it would be safer for the dogs if we anchored each post in the ground. Also, Max Frayser had access to some used tires and that turned into a tire ladder leading to the top of one of the towers. I really enjoyed designing and building this training center and I hope it will be used for years to come! I really believe that these dogs can save lives and it means the world to me that I am helping them to do that. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who helped make this possible including all of Boy Scout Troop 503 and my amazing parents.

Canine Training Facility Eagle Project Jacob Rawls

Hi, my name is Jacob Parker Rawls from Troop 503 and this is my Eagle Project for the Hanover Fire and EMS training facility in Ashland, VA. This all started when my dad and I met Lieutenant Max Frayser who is a handler for search and rescue canines. Mr. Frayser wanted a more permanent replacement for the stray ladders and obstacles that they used to train the canines. So I decided to take on the job of designing and building a modular training facility so that these search and rescue dogs were up to the task of saving lives everyday. Below are the designs for the training facility. It includes four towers each with two levels with obstacles in between that can be interchanged and moved around for versatility and training.

So far the training center has been used by the the following groups as an integral part in training their canines.

  • Hanover County Sheriffs Department

  • Federal Bureau of Investigation

  • Greater Atlantic Search and Rescue Dogs

  • Tidewater Search and Rescue

  • Dogs East Search and Rescue

  • Richmond Police Department

  • Virginia State Police Department

  • Hanover County Fire and EMS
